Sometimes you eat the bear….

My dad’s been gone since 1993. I miss him still, but he still visits me two ways. One, I dream about him and Mom often. Two, I never hesitate to use the sayings he used to pass onto me. Today one in particular comes to mind:

“Sometimes you eat the bear; sometimes the bear eats you.”

I am back in Phase 2 of my 30-day 45,000 word challenge. I did ok the first time around and ended up with 47K. Now it is time to do it again. I even have others on Facebook and elsewhere trying to do the same thing.

That doesn’t make it any easier to write when you have writer’s block. Hence the bear.

I tell myself, don’t worry about the quality of the words. I tell myself, just write it. And after a day of sitting in the living room in front of my keyboard, I am still 200 words short of my required 1,500 words. The other thought that continues to loom over me is that because of July 4 Holiday, I am about 4,000 words behind even that daily requirement.

Eat me, bear. Eat away.

The reality is, sometimes writing is hard. Especially when you don’t know what to write.

Actually I find it very easy to write when I know what it is I want to say.

It’s the other times that really bite.

  1. That bear be a chompin’

Here’s hoping I get some really good Ideas before m blogging needs run out in a day or two and I have to get back to my stories.

  2. Oh yes the bear is attacking me at the moment. I really relate to this blog, writer’s block is something that is a huge part of my life. I always have something to say, but most of the time it is nothing that will benefit my writing. When the bear comes you can’t give up, that’s what I have to keep telling myself.
