Steampunk? Steampunk!

Just a quick jot between classes to tell you that  no, I haven’t forgotten National Novel Writing Month. In fact, it is probably one of the top three things on my mind at present. And as I check in on Twitter, I hear another word being repeated quite often: steampunk.

It seems there is a group of publishers who is very interested in any books in the steampunk genre, and is hitting up any NaNo writers to keep them in mind. I had to look up steampunk to make sure I understood it correctly, and I encourage you to do the same. But apparently it’s one of those new waves–after the current vampire wave dies out.

So before you lock your topic in for NaNoWriMo, check out steampunk.

  1. Gah. That’s making me reconsider my topic. Do you think dreampunk would work? hm… Wish I had thought of this earlier, I would’ve been doing my research toward that end.

  2. Try taking a look at The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comics for steampunk ideas. The movie was waaaay off of the original source material, which was actually very interesting and imaginative, but then again, most Alan Moore stuff is.

I’m waiting for this vampire craze to die out too.

  3. I just got a new steampunk novel recently by Cherie Priest called Boneshaker. I’m really looking forward to reading it.
