I picked up a Young Adult book while I was in Siloam Springs, Ark. because it looked interesting, and because Young Adult books–especially fantasy ones–are hot right now. The series is called The Ranger Apprentice, and though it has flaws is pretty good. It made me think about audience and how I should be writing in the Young Adult market. I’ve written several junior-level books before, four that were published in the Shoebox Kids series, so it wouldn’t be much of a stretch.

So last night I had an epiphany. I love it when that happens. About three times in my writing career I have woken up from a sleep, knowing what it was I was supposed to write, and even more exciting, I was inspired by it.

So I am jazzed. I will get started on it right away. And contrary to my usual habit of sharing half-baked stories right away, this one stays with me. I will, however, be sharing a chapter or two in days to come.

More later.

  1. ooooo, I’m looking forward to it!

I tried to get back into the writing yesterday, but kinda failed. I’m going to purposefully daydream about the story some today and nurture that inspirational spark. Hopefully it’ll have re-caught my imagination by Sunday.
