Well, I haven’t been posting later, and a lot of the reason for that is that I am embarrassed.
National Novel Writing Month has started, but I haven’t. I signed up, mind you, but that’s as far as I have gotten. In the signing up part, they asked for a synopsis of my story. In my head it sounded pretty good, but when I put it out on paper, I wasn’t impressed.
At the same time, I got an invite from the website reuts.com to take part in their version of NaNoWriMo, which asked that I write a short story on demand based on a theme for each week. I saw their theme for the first week, entitled Bloody something, and was uninspired.
On top of all of that, my wife has the week off. Yesterday was spent doing another yard sale, today we have people installing new countertops and tomorrow we have a new AC unit coming in. Finally, today is her birthday. Just a few distractions there.
But the bottom line is that I know all of this is just excuses. As my friend and fellow writer Randy Maxwell used to say, if you are going to write, you will find a way to do it, regardless of what is going on in your life. I guess for me it is simply a matter of taking that first step.
Trouble is, I haven’t taken it.
