Early Riser

Write Thinking smallSo here I am, sitting in my dark living room at 5 a.m. wondering why I am awake. Actually I woke up before 3:30 and have been trying to sleep since then. I’ve learned, however, that there’s a law of diminishing returns on sleep. After about 45 minutes of sleeplessness, it’s pretty much a lost cause.

Anyway, getting up early gives me a chance to share the good news. My latest book–#18 in fact–is official at Amazon and Smashwords. Write Thinking: Psychology for the Productive Writer is now an official e-book! The book is a compilation of the best writing advice I have shared in the past five years on my blog. Since there are so many books about the mechanics of writing and how to market your books, I thought I would try the approach of how to go about getting that manuscript done. As I mention in the book’s foreword, “Once you learn the rules, writing is pretty much just mind games.”

final5And with my compilation of short stories that came out a couple of weeks ago, A Hole in the Sky and Other Stories, that frees my mind up to go back to the novel I have been trying to work on for the past couple of months–and many years before that–about David and Jonathan. Trouble is, as usual, I am having daydreams and inspiration leading in another direction. Funny how that works. Do I capitalize on momentary inspiration and put David and Jonathan on hold again? Or do I play the disciplinarian and get to work on D & J?

I’ll let you know next week. In the meantime, enjoy the weekend and try to stay cool.
