It’s the day I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. Actually, it’s a special day for two reasons. One, because the National Football League is having its annual Draft Day where teams go round-robin and choose college players who will be joining their teams as new players. My favorite NFL team is the … More Draft Day
After a dry spell of a couple of months, I finally got another review today on Amazon. Of course, the problem with reviews is that you can’t guarantee they will be good. The review was for my end time book, If Tomorrow Comes, and states simply, “The story would be interesting if it wasn’t basically … More Affirmation vs. Propaganda: Mythology in Storytelling
Swarm Troopers: How Small Drones Will Conquer the World by David Hambling. Kindle Edition. 323 pages. I’ve always had an affinity for all things techie, even though I’m not a physicist (though I could play one on TV). And so this kind of book was good in the sense that it presented something somewhat new … More Review: “Swarm Troopers” by David Hambling
It’s depressing when you can’t find the time to write. Worse yet when you finally find time, yet you’re so mentally exhausted that you can put two words together. So when bits and pieces of ideas float of of nowhere and seem to enlighten your ongoing writing project–one you have every intention of writing but … More A Bit of an Epiphany
I’m spending my Sunday morning at school proctoring the Senior exit exam for four graduating senior communication majors in our university. More were supposed to be here, but either overslept, blew the exam off, or have already made arrangements to take the test later. It’s an essay exam in the traditional Blue Books, and I’m … More It’s Not What You Know That’s Important…

I made the transition from traditional publishing to indie publishing in the beginning of 2012 for a variety of reasons, one of them being the fact that I simply love the process of putting a book together. It’s … More Covers I Have Loved
Back in 1998 I was hired to come to Texas and teach students how to be a book, newspaper and magazine editor and how to write books and magazine articles. I had 25 years experience in doing that very thing, and I figured that would be my claim to fame from that point on. But … More The Medium Isn’t the Message
Two weeks ago, our University Communication Department took its students on their annual Communication Field Trip in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This year, just for a change, we included two historical sites: the Sixth Floor Museum that commemorates the assassination of John F. Kennedy and his tenure as president, and the Holocaust Museum, which talks … More Who Do We Need More: Leaders or Heroes?
We’re on the other side of two monumental responsibilities of mine. (who-hoo!) The deadline for high schoolers to turn in their four-minute videos in the 48-hour film challenge at our University was 90 minutes ago. At the same time, the University website, the project that has obsessed me since Christmas, has been put to bed … More Idle Hands Are the Devil’s Workshop
I’ve been meaning to get back here for quite a while, but real life has been quite a taskmaster lately. We’ve been trying to launch a new university website and I have been working weekends and every spare moment to get it caught up. This morning at 10 a.m. was the drop-dead time for all … More Out of Sight, Out of My Mind
