We’re in Dead Week, the last week of classes at Southwestern Adventist University, before final exams begin next Monday. It’s been a light semester for me, and I have taken advantage of it to launch one book and work on the eventual launch of another in March. In addition, next semester looks to be a … More Dead Week
These are busy days for all of us, I know. We just got done with Thanksgiving, we’re gearing up for Christmas. We’re making our Christmas lists and checking them twice. In my neck of the woods, I am down to the last two weeks of classes, and then we have final exams, so there’s that. … More Last Day, First Day
I used to tell my students, “The difference between a professional and an amateur is that a professional gets paid.” Well, yes and no. But it’s not that simple. To explain myself, let me tell you about my fence. When we moved to Texas in 1998, we had a fence on one side of our … More The Professional versus The Amateur

Yesterday I had the joy of giving final approval on the cover for The Key of Solomon, something I will be unveiling a week from today. And it got me thinking about something that happened more than 20 years ago. Back in the 90s, I was a book editor in Idaho–among other things–and a magazine … More Selling the Whole Package
I’ve never been a detail person. I consider myself a generalist, and have a reputation of getting a great deal of work done fast. The problem is that I find the details sometimes lacking when you focus on getting volumes of work done. It seems odd for me, a person with several decades’ experience as … More The Devil Is In the Details
